Autumn is right around the corner, and it’s time to check out the upcoming fall trends. In case you didn’t know, long pleated skirts are back and better than ever. They’re an absolute must for your fall wardrobe.
To tell the truth, I was never much of a fashionista when I was younger. My main wardrobe consisted of band tees, battered jeans, and good old Converse. Truth be told, it still does and it’s definitely time to mix things up.
While we don’t need to retire all of our old favorites, we do need to branch out for a little more variety.
The best of us can get stuck in a rut when it comes to our style. It can be expensive to expand our wardrobe, and most of us just aren’t that dedicated to the task.
There are a lot of other things that we’re juggling in our daily lives. For many of us, as long as we look presentable and the clothes fit, we'll ride them out as long as possible.
Trust me; there are quite a few things in my closet that I’ve had for at least 10 years. I’d bet money you do too.
The thing is, we don’t need to stick with the same clothes forever, even if they fit. We need to get out there and try new things. It’s the ultimate way to boost your confidence.
Fall Is Time for a Few New Skirts
With that in mind, it’s high time we found pieces that are easy to mix and match. That includes options that we can dress up or dress down, depending on our mood and the occasion.
In other words, long pleated skirts are one of the best things we could add to our wardrobe.
Once you do, you’ll never want to go back.
What are pleated skirts?
When most of us think of pleated skirts, plaid miniskirts come to mind automatically. That style was fairly popular in the 90s and early 2000s, which was many people's entire childhood.
Keep in mind, that wasn’t the only time they were in style. However, it's the one we think of after the movie Mean Girls and the emo trends of our youth.
That naughty schoolgirl look might make you cringe now, but it was everything back in the day.
While that’s a fun blast from the past, long pleated skirts are a much classier option for this fall. They're essentially maxi skirts with built-in folds, that'll give you a gorgeous flowy skirt with the right fabric. Plus, pleats are the perfect way to spice up a plain skirt.
It allows you to wear neutral or solid colors that'll work well with the prints that are already in your closet. That way, you'll be able to mix and match without taking the whole outfit over the top.
Pleated skirts come in quite a variety. Some are prints, some are excessively pleated, and others are fairly neutral. No matter what you’re looking for, you can be sure that you'll find a little bit of everything this fall.
The Top 5 Reasons You Absolutely Need Long Pleated Skirts
If we haven’t sold you the idea of long pleated skirts by now, we’re about to dive in and seal the deal. The thing is, you obviously can live without these skirts in your life. If you’ve gotten this far without them, what’s the big deal, right?
Well, not so fast. We want to cover all the top reasons you should add long pleated skirts to your wardrobe this fall. Even if they’re not essential, they’re certainly going to be a fun and useful thing to keep on hand.
The truth is, you’re missing out, and you don’t even know it.
1. The variety is astounding
We already mentioned that there are many different kinds of pleated skirts on the market. The ones you know best are probably the mini-skirts of the past. While they’re fun, they’re not exactly the top choice on our list of things to wear to work.
Long pleated skirts are a fabulous option this fall because you get full coverage and can still mix up your outfit. At the very least, you aren’t going to be cold.
There are many different types of pleats, as well. So keep looking until you find something that fits your style. If you find a few unique options, you’ll have infinite outfit possibilities.
There are accordion pleats, knife pleats, box pleats, and more. The pleats will make simple skirts fuller and more stylish. So if you haven’t found one you love yet, keep looking.
In fact, some of your current favorites might be pleated, and you just don’t know it. Although, I’m sure you’ll be looking at them a little more closely from here on out!
2. They’re always in style
Pleated skirts, in one form or another, are always in style. At the moment, accordion pleats are all the rage. However, if you aren’t partial to that style, you can certainly take advantage of one of many other options.
The beauty of long pleated skirts is their versatility. They typically come in a wide range of solid colors, although patterns aren’t out of the question. That enables them to go with a wide range of blouses.
Overall, you'll always be able to find long pleated skirts on the market, in one form or another. They’ll never go out of style, but at the moment it’s going to be much easier to find a wider selection. Take advantage of that this fall, and enjoy them forever!
3. Dress up or down for endless possibilities
Long pleated skirts are gorgeous and simple enough to dress up or down. It all depends on your shirt and accessories.
For instance, if you tuck a flowy blouse into your long pleated skirt and add a blazer and heels, you’ll look extremely professional. Additionally, if you drop the blazer and add the right accessories, you would have a lovely outfit for a date.
There are countless possibilities! All you have to do is play around with things you have on hand. If you want to build an outfit around the skirt, just wear it while you go shopping to find things that will look amazing with it.
4. Layer up this fall
We all look forward to Autumn because it's the start of sweater weather. That also means it’s by far the comfiest time of year.
Well, you’re in luck because you can still wear all of your coziest sweaters with your long pleated skirts. No matter what kind of sweaters you adore, they will look incredible.
It's a wonderful option if you face some bitterly cold weather as fall comes to a close. It will also give you a chance to add layers underneath. You can consider wearing thigh high socks or warm leggings under your long pleated skirt.
That is one of my personal favorite perks because I feel like a little kid when I wear leggings with short dresses. I tried that for a while to see if I would still get away with wearing my summer dresses in the fall.
It didn’t really work out for me, but wearing long pleated skirts with leggings or other layers is much easier. It gives us ladies the option to stay extra warm, and nobody will know the difference.
5. Long pleated skirts go with everything
We said it once, and we’ll say it a thousand times. Long pleated skirts are incredibly versatile and go with just about everything. You can wear them all year round, and they’re especially perfect during the fall.
You can dress them up or down, wear them with t-shirts, blouses, and just about any cute jacket. I have seen women wearing them for job interviews, to work, out on the town, or on casual shopping trips.
No matter what the occasion is, you can make long pleated skirts work to your advantage. Plus, they come in a range of different materials so that they can go with an array of styles as well.
That includes flowy chiffon materials, which are perfect if you want a fun and stylish skirt. Or, you can consider thicker materials to keep warm and look more professional.
No matter what you’re mood is, with the right skirt, you’ll be ready for any occasion.

In the fall, you start changing your wardrobe over, prepping for winter. You pack up those beautiful summer dresses and tuck away your favorite shorts.
You have to if you’re going to make room for those bulky but comfortable warm clothes.
For once, you can have a piece of clothing that doesn’t need to make that transition. We can wear long pleated skirts year-round, and that’s exactly why we love them.
They’re easy, they go with everything, and they never go out of style. In the end, they're something you should absolutely add to your wardrobe this fall.
For one thing, you’ll be able to find more options while they’re popular. And for another, you can still wear them when the cold weather starts to fade.
